Hello Again!

Hello all,

We had a great day today. We completed the construction projects on Friday so we spend the second half of that day and then the first half of today building benches for the Port Au Prince church.

At about 11 we headed up to the Haiti baptist Mission which is located way up at the top of tv mountain overlooking Port Au Prince. It was neat to see. It is just amazing to drive through this country and see the immense poverty.

One of the guys went and visited one of the boys who used to be in the orphanage in Tricotte. Michelin is now about 20 years old and lives in PAP. He is an amazing young man of God. He does work for Starfish when we have it, but that is far and few between. He currently pays hi own rent and supports his 2 sisters as well. His parent live in Northern Haiti and are very, very poor. Michelin's house is in a very poor part of town, there is no electricity, it is one 10' x 10' room which all of them share and it smells terribly of human waste as does the entire area. It truly is hard to imagine what these people have to endure day after day after day.

What broke my heart is that Michelin shares that He was saving up his money in order to afford to to on a Mission trip to the Dominican Republic. Here is a young man with literally nothing, but what he has he wants to use to reach out to others to share
Christ. I just can't wrap my mind around that level of selflessness.

The team is tired and has now arrived at the Visa Lodge in Port Au Prince. This hotel has a pool and air conditioned sleep so the group is getting much needed rest and a great nights sleep.

Roger is taking some quiet time and finalizing his notes for his sermon tomorrow in Bethel. It will be so near to have spent all that time there working on those homes, to now get the opportunity to worship with them in church. Looking backnover our trip we can all agree that God is good, he is more than we can imagine to us and has blessed us beyond measure this trip. We miss you all very much and are so excited to come home and be back with our family and friends.

See you soon, God Bless!

Over the River and through the woods

Hello All, we deeply apologize for the delays in getting our blog updated! We are however alive and doing well and having and absolute blast.

Our first day was supposed to just be a staging day, but we ended up getting started and completing and entire house! Our team is putting on the roof and the cement floor. We are ahead of schedule here at day 5, we have completed 4 houses as of today and plan to do the final 2 tomorrow!

We have been so blessed by the recieving families. There was one in particular today that the man was so touched he stepped over his cultural barrier and was literally brought to tears and hugged us. Not just a casual hug, but a sincere hug that didn't want to let go. His wife was right behind him equally as blessed fishing out hugs and thanks!!

Today was an adventure, we didn't get to drive to our house, we needed to hike 20 minutes up the mountain in the heat of the day with all of our tools including the generator. It was very exciting...and hot. I we were even attacked by a donkey, it may have been demon possessed, or just mad, either way, it was on a mission to take Tobey out.

It was also staggering to walk through the river channels and see the depth the water reached during the Hurricane. It was 20' in places literally roaring through peoples homes. The scariest part is that the villagers tell us that in 1 hour it went from no water to a raging river tearing their homes away. So sad.

All in all, we are having a blast, enjoying Christ, and loving the people of Haiti. We miss you all!

God Bless

Go Time!

Yes, it's close to go time. We are nearing our departure, this Sunday the 25th.  We ask for your prayers for our safety in this amazing/awesome/exciting journey God is leading us on. What an adventure following Jesus! We are becoming so unified as a team, and are like a bunch of horses at the gate ready for the race!

Please pray for safety in travel, safety in country, but most importantly pray for God's will to be done in and through this team. God has set this trip in motion, and like a few loaves of bread and some fish, God can and will do awesome things through humbles means if we just humble ourselves and obey Him. This trip is just that, a humble act of Obedience.

Thank you & God Bless

My prayer

Philippians 3:10 - NLT

"I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another, I will experience the resurrection from the dead!"

I read this passage this morning, and just thought wow! i want this to be my desire. The MIGHTY POWER that raised Jesus from the dead, is the same power that i have access to everyday by the power of the Holy Spirit! I pray that as i prepare for Haiti, as our team prepares, that we would not limit God! Our view of him has to be HUGE (because he is:)), so that when we go, we will not allow anything to come in the way, you know?? Not circumstances, or hardships or anything! God is SO BIG, and his power is available to us! Let's walk in that TRUTH!!!!!

Gearin' Up!

It's time again for NCCTK church to join up with Starfish Ministries to impact the lives of the people of Haiti! We are so blessed once again for the opportunity to go, serve, love, give, teach, be taught, worship, and bless!

As always, prayer is the only anecdote for anything that we will encounter both in prepering for this trip, and while in country. We covet all prayers on behalf of each team member, and especially for all of those we come into contact with.

Our prayer and hope for this team, is that God would reveal Himself to each one of us and teach us what the "True Church" is all about. Even though we are just a few, we are His Body, and are seeking His guidance on how to truly be led by Jesus as we immerse ourselves into such an amazing place!

Please stay tuned as we gear up, get ready, and arrive in Haiti. We will be updating this blog more frequently as we get closer to our trip on Jan 25th, 2009. And will update daily testimonies, stories, and experiences while in Country.

Blessing to you all!

In His Service,

Tobey Vos
